Frequently Asked Questions.

How do I place an order?
The first and most difficult step is to choose two letters or numbers to represent you or an event for your Mymo. Kids’ initials? Your initials? The dogs’? Date you met? Football jersey? Lucky number? State abbreviation? Up to you.

Followed by 3 Simple Steps:

  1. Type your two letters or numbers into the Mymo Creator and press View. You can choose which letter faces front and side. For asymmetrical letters, like F, you can choose if the side letter reads from the left side or right side (the other will be a mirror image, a backwards F).
  2. Choose necklace or keychain, then choose a material.
  3. Press order and follow the steps to fill in your credit card and shipping info.

How long does it take?
Your on-screen Mymo takes only seconds, but creating it in stainless steel, sterling silver, or 14k gold takes a bit longer. Your Mymo will be created just for you using in the Shapeways Factory of the Future.

It takes 2-4 weeks to create each Mymo (depending on the material). Stainless and Handpolished Silver typically take 3-4 weeks. Silver and Gold typically take about 2-3 weeks. You will receive a notice when your order is shipped.

In the United States, please allow up to one additional week for shipping of your Mymo to your door. Outside the US, please allow 2-8 weeks for shipping, depending on location and customs processing (varies widely by country). You will be responsible for any customs charges or other fees.

How do you make each Mymo?
Every Mymo is custom made to order with state-of-the-art 3D printers in the Shapeways Factory of the Future and then we add the finishing touches by hand and send your Mymo to your door. The exact process for each material is a little different. Our gold and silver Mymos are made with a wax cast (which is 3D printed) in a process similar to the "lost wax" method that jewelers have been using for centuries. Our steel items are created using stainless steel powder and special glue in a 3D printer, then infused with bronze, which replaces the glue. Our steel keychains go through an additional nickel infusion and polishing process for added shine.

Please note that there may be some imperfections or in the pieces due to the processes involved. For example, steel items will include a small patch of texture that is smoother than the rest - a result of the removal of the structure that supports the piece during the bronze infusion process.

What exactly is the difference between Sterling Silver and Handpolished Silver?
Both products are made with the same sterling silver material and "lost wax" casting process similar to the one jewelers have been using for centuries. The sterling silver option is then lightly polished on the outside surfaces, but retains a look of raw silver on interior spaces. The handpolished silver is intensely hand polished so all the surfaces that can be reached by hand are super shiny and look wet, with softer rounded corners. Note that silver is a relatively soft material, and should be periodically polished and may scratch over time. For this reason, our silver keychains are only produced with our standard level of polish - the additional shine of our handpolished silver would get lost after a little time in your pocket with keys.

What if I have a nickel allergy?
Our stainless steel necklaces do not contain nickel. However, our keychains go through an additional nickel plating and polishing process for added shine. If you have a nickel allergy, and are worried that even touching the keychain will be a problem, include a message in the notes field with your order, and we will happily produce your keychain without nickel.

Do you offer ceramic pieces?
During the 2013 Christmas holidays, we offered Mymos as ceramic ornaments. With the holidays behind us, we have removed them for sale. We are currently exploring other options for ceramic Mymos - such as bookends, and wedding cake toppers. If you are interested in a ceramic Mymo, drop us an email.

How do Mymos attach to the chain?
For larger Mymos that have a side letter with a closed counter (like O, P, and D) we run the necklace through the opening, or attach a ring for keychains. When the side letter does not have an enclosed counter (such as H, N or T), we create a hole through the form to put the chain or ring through. For 8mm mini Mymos, we add a loop to top of the pendant with a 14k gold or sterling silver jump ring to attach to the chain. How do the adjustable-length chains work?
The sterling silver and handpolished silver Statement Necklaces come with an ingenious clasp that lets you change the length of the chain from 16" up to 22". The small silver cylinder on the chain is an enclosed spring. Press the top and bottom of it and you can slide the cylinder along the chain, making it longer or shorter when fastened.

Do you offer wholesale?
Not generally, because Mymos are custom created for each person. But we can produce multiples of specific items, or partner to take retail orders at your point of sale. If you have a creative shop, feel free to e-mail us and we can chat about the possibilities.

Do you offer gift cards?
Yes! We offer gift cards for $75, $130, and $160, corresponding to our most popular Mymos that your recipient might wish to order. We will send a gift card with instructions for the lucky recipient. Gift card amounts cannot be used to cover tax or shipping.

Can I track my order?
Yes, if you set up an account at the end of the order process, you can log in using the email and password you provided - to find out if your Mymo has been shipped to you. We include the shipping information so you can track your Mymo after shipping as well. If you have any issues with the tracking, also feel free to e-mail us at any time.

Why the long lead time?
Every Mymo is custom made to order. It takes time to create a custom piece of jewelry, hence the time needed to complete every Mymo with love.

Do you ship internationally?
Yep - to over 100 countries in the world. We don't ship to some countries due to import limitations or shipping fraud.

How much does shipping cost?
Shipping within the United States is a flat $12 via FedEx ground with tracking and insurance.

For shipments to other countries, please note that we ship from the United States Postal Service via Priority Mail International with insurance. This costs $35 to Canada and $45 to everywhere else we ship. This allows tracking to select countries, along with insurance and the ability to make claims if packages don't arrive safely. This shipping cost does not include any customs charges or duties. You are responsible for any and all customs charges or other fees charged in transit. We make no guarantee or suggestion as to how long your package may take to arrive.

You are solely responsible for any correspondence with customs. Please research what you will be charged by customs to receive our products before ordering. We do not offer any refunds or returns.

Are there other options for international shipping?
We recommend that you look into a package forwarding service for international shipping, such as Shipito or Viabox. They offer more options on cost, tracking and insurance than we can offer. Some also give customs advice. These services will give you a US address, gather packages for you, and then send packages to your international address using the shipper and customs options you choose. We do not have any connection to any of these services. These are companies that people have recommended to us for international shipping.

Can I expedite my order?
Unfortunately, no. As your Mymo is manufactured to order, we are unable to speed up the manufacturing process.

What happens if a package goes missing?
In the US, please notify us if you have not received your package within a week of shipment notice. We will file an insurance claim with FedEx. When we receive a payment from FedEx for the lost package, we will re-order your Mymo at no cost or refund your full purchase price.

For international shipments, please notify us if you have not received your package within 3 weeks of shipment notice. If an international package goes missing, we will file an insurance claim with the USPS after 20 days from the shipping date. We will process a refund to you when we receive an insurance payment from the USPS for the missing package.

Do you offer refunds or returns?
No. As every Mymo is made to order, we cannot accept returns or offer refunds for orders. If you make a mistake when ordering, however, let us know as soon as possible and we will try to correct it before your Mymo goes into manufacturing. If you notice a defect or error with your Mymo when you receive it, or thereafter, email us anytime and we will be happy to do whatever we can to fix it up.
